Brit wins bet to survive past the age of 100
The UK media reported a heart-warming story this week of a British
man who celebrated his 100th birthday more than GBP sterling 7000
richer on Sunday after placing a bet 10 years ago on his own life
expectancy.
Sunday was Arthur Best’s 100th birthday, and as well as receiving
a telegram from the Queen of Great Britain, he received his winnings
after betting on his own survival. He placed the bet ten years ago
with 66:1 odds to win the celebratory sum.
A birthday party was thrown in his honor in the town of Shrewsbury
in eastern England and included a guard of hon our from his wartime
regiment with which he served in India and Burma in WW2.
