Deals
February 5, 2014
In a sign that online gambling is well on its way to the mainstream
in the United States, the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils
signed marketing agreements with Bwin.Party Digital Entertainment
Plc. The 76ers and Devils are the first U.S. pro sports teams to
sign an agreement with an online gambling firm. “This is our
flag in the ground that we do things differently,” Scott O’Neil,
chief executive officer of the 76ers and the Devils said. “We’re
looking for groundbreaking opportunities with companies willing
to take chances.”
It has been reported that the multi-year deal is worth at least
$10 million dollars. Online gambling has become legal in Nevada,
Delaware and New Jersey with more states expected to legalize it
in the near future. The first agreement is with Partypoker so expect
to see ads for Partypoker during Philadelphia 76ers games and New
Jersey Devils games and also look for ads at other events at the
Prudential Center. Partypoker will now be the official online gambling
partner of the 76ers, Devils and the Prudential Center.
The three states, New Jersey, Nevada and Delaware are all offering
online poker with New Jersey and Delaware also offering other casino
games. All of the action is available only to players who reside
within the borders of the state.
